on every storey of the property used as living accommodation, and a
carbon monoxide alarm in any room with a fixed combustion appliance
such as a gas fire, wood burner or boiler. Alarms must be tested and confirmed working on the
first day of every new tenancy, and repaired or replaced as soon as
reasonably practicable once a landlord is made aware of a fault. Non-compliance can result in a
civil penalty of up to £5,000 imposed by the local authority.
